{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are privately issued notes designed to function as a voluntary local currency. Each note is produced using a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between layers of durable polyester. The notes feature detailed artwork and contain a measured fractional amount of gold, giving them both collectible appeal and practical value. The series originally launched in Utah and has gradually expanded into other states, combining the enduring value of gold with the convenience of a spendable note. The Idaho Goldback series introduces designs that reflect the history and natural character of the state. Today, 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets are available online from BGASC.
Highlights:
These 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets are issued in bundles containing 100 notes. Each note incorporates several security features that help confirm authenticity. These elements include ultraviolet-reactive details, precision micro-printing, and an individual serial number printed on every note.
Design
The design of the 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note represents the virtue of Pietas through imagery inspired by Sacagawea. Sacagawea, a Lemhi Shoshone woman, became known for her role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition as an interpreter and guide. She was born around 1788 in the Lemhi Valley near modern-day Salmon, Idaho. As a young girl, she was taken by Hidatsa raiders and later lived among the Mandan people in present-day North Dakota. When the Corps of Discovery traveled through Idaho in 1805, Sacagaweas knowledge of the land and her communication with Shoshone groups helped the expedition safely continue its journey.
History
Pietas was considered one of the most respected virtues in Roman society. It was commonly depicted as a calm female figure symbolizing loyalty to family, the state, and the gods. In traditional artwork, Pietas may be shown holding a stork, which symbolized devotion within the family, or a patera used during ceremonial offerings. Some artistic scenes also include a swallow or a nearby altar. The concept extended beyond religion and described a broader responsibility to honor commitments to others and to the community.
