{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}SilverTowne is known for creating silver rounds with clean finishes and designs that often reflect famous themes from American coin history. One of the best-known of these is the Incuse Indian design, originally created in 1908 by Bela Lyon Pratt and later used as inspiration for several SilverTowne round releases. Today, 1/4 oz SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Rounds are available online for purchase at BGASC.
Highlights:
These 1/4 oz SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Rounds are available individually in plastic flips. Multiples will ship in protective tubes of 30 rounds.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1/4 oz Incuse Indian Silver Round features the iconic portrait created by Bela Lyon Pratt. It presents a left-facing Native American figure wearing a feathered headdress. What makes the design stand out is its incuse strike, meaning the image is pressed down into the surface rather than appearing raised above it. The inscription LIBERTY is shown along the top edge, while thirteen stars surround the portrait as a nod to the original colonies of the United States.
Reverse
The reverse side of the SilverTowne Incuse Indian Silver Round includes Pratts matching bald eagle design. The eagle is shown standing with wings lowered at its sides, giving the image a composed and strong appearance. It faces left while resting on a bundle of arrows with an olive branch, symbolizing both defense and peace. The phrases IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM are displayed on either side of the eagle, completing the traditional layout.
History
When this incuse style was first used on American coinage, it sparked plenty of discussion. Some people worried the recessed areas could hold dirt or bacteria, while others simply preferred the more common raised designs used on most coins. Over time, the design gained more appreciation and became accepted during its production run, even though it never reached the popularity of the Saint-Gaudens gold coin artwork being issued around the same period.
