{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are privately produced notes created for voluntary local circulation. They are made by placing a thin layer of 24-karat gold between protective sheets of polyester film. Every note contains a small measured portion of physical gold and features detailed artwork throughout the design. Goldbacks represent one of the few forms of gold currency intended for everyday-style exchanges in small denominations. The concept first launched in Utah and later expanded to several other states, bringing together the historical role of gold with a modern format. The Idaho Goldback series is the newest issue and features designs that reflect the character and natural scenery of the state. Currently, 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets are available at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Set available in this listing contains 100 individual notes secured together with a black bundle strap. The notes feature a range of security enhancements including UV-reactive design elements, detailed micro-printing, and individual serial numbers.
Design
The design on the 1 Idaho Goldback Gold Note shows a pioneer woman representing the spirit of Fides. She pauses along a trail with her young son while their wagon waits nearby near the City of Rocks. This well-known location sits in south-central Idaho near the town of Almo and features dramatic granite formations rising above the surrounding sagebrush landscape. Large spires, domes, and monoliths define the area. During the mid-1800s, travelers on the California Trail often stopped here and carved their names into the rocks using grease from their wagon axles. Some of these historic markings are still faintly visible today.
History
Fides was the Roman goddess associated with trust, faithfulness, and good faith. She held an important place in Roman society and was among the earliest gods to receive organized public worship. Fides was commonly shown as a calm and dignified woman dressed in white clothing, a color symbolizing honesty and integrity. In artwork, she might be depicted extending her right hand to represent agreement or holding items like an olive branch or ears of grain, both symbols tied to peace and cooperation.
