{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}If youre looking to buy silver coins, the British Silver Britannia is a smart choice. As the official silver bullion coin of Great Britain, it features designs that reflect the countrys history and identity, much like Liberty and the bald eagle represent the United States. The 1 oz British Silver Britannia Coin is now available for purchase online from BGASC.
Highlights:
In this BGASC listing, youll receive a 1 oz British Silver Britannia Coin. The specific year of issue cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the available stock at the time your order is fulfilled. Coins are packaged in individual flips or in tubes of 20 or 25, depending on the year. Older issues are typically packed in tubes of 20, while newer ones are found in tubes of 25.
Obverse
The obverse of each 1 oz British Silver Britannia coin features the portrait of the current British monarch based on the year it was struck. From 1998 to 2015, the coins displayed Ian Rank-Broadleys fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Jody Clarks portrait of the Queen was introduced later in 2015 and appears on all Britannias from 2016 through 2022. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Martin Jennings first portrait of King Charles III appeared on coins starting in early 2023.
Reverse
The reverse of every British Silver Britannia showcases the iconic figure of Britannia herself. She wears a Corinthian helmet, holds a trident symbolizing maritime strength, and carries a shield marked with the Union Jack to represent national defense and protection.
History
When the Romans began their conquest of the British Isles, they referred to the region as Britannia. Over time, Britannia came to be seen as more than a place nameit became a personification of a guardian spirit watching over the isles.
The Royal Mint introduced the Britannia series in 1987, starting with a gold coin. A decade later, in 1997, the Silver Britannia joined the lineup. The coins originally contained .958 fine silver until 2012, and beginning in 2013, the Royal Mint increased the purity to .999 fine silver.
