{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Mexicos Peso remains one of the countrys most recognizable forms of currency, and older gold Peso coins continue to attract interest from investors and collectors alike. Although these coins are no longer struck by the Mexican Mint, surviving examples from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are still available today. Right now, BGASC offers 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coins from random years online.
Highlights:
The 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coins in this listing are packaged individually in protective plastic flips. These coins are selected from random years of issue and may show a wide range of conditions based on age and circulation history. BGASC does not guarantee a specific year or condition for the coins in your order. Orders are fulfilled according to current inventory, and purchases of multiple coins may include matching years and similar conditions.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coins, the denomination is shown at the center of the design field. Along the lower edge is an ornamental wreath that frames the inscription. Above the denomination are additional markings that identify the coins gold purity and the mint mark from the issuing facility. Each example in this series contains .875 gold.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coin features a historic version of the Mexican coat of arms. The design portrays an eagle perched on a cactus while battling a serpent in its beak and talon. This image has long been used as an important national symbol in Mexico. The reverse also includes inscriptions of the countrys name and the coins year of issue.
History
The Mexican Gold 1 Peso coin first appeared in 1870 during the period known as the Second Mexican Republic. This was a time of major political change for the country after the downfall of the Second Mexican Empire and the death of Emperor Maximilian. With the establishment of a modern republic, Mexico also introduced updated forms of national coinage.
While silver 1 Peso coins were first issued in 1869, the gold version entered production one year later. Gold 1 Peso coins remained in production until 1905, with several branch mints across Mexico participating in the striking of these coins over the course of more than three decades.
