{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Discover the historic charm of the Liberty Gold Half Eagle, the longest-used design in the history of the US Eagle denomination. From the $10 Eagle to the $5 and $2.50 Eagles, the Liberty Head design graced these coins from the 1830s until 1907. What makes the Half Eagle truly special is its production at various US Mint branch locations. Now, you have the chance to own a certified 1846 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin from the prestigious Fairmont Collection of US Eagles, available for purchase at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 1846 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin available here comes housed in a slab and arrives in XF40 condition. This grade represents Extremely Fine, with a numerical grade of 40 placing it towards the lower end of the XF range. Generally, coins in this range exhibit only light wear on the high relief points and may retain traces of mint luster.
Obverse
The obverse design of these 1846 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coins showcases the left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a coronet crown. This design was created by the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, Christian Gobrecht.
Reverse
On the reverse of 1846 Liberty Gold Half Eagles, you’ll find the heraldic eagle of the United States with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
History
What sets these Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coins apart is their unique connection to the Fairmont Collection. These coins found their way into European banks in the 19th century through international commerce between the United States and Europe. Recently, European banks repatriated these historic US Eagles, but many dates and denominations remain scarce in Mint State or other certified conditions. Beyond their association with the Fairmont Collection, these Half Eagles were produced by the Philadelphia Mint. Interestingly, the Liberty Half Eagle stands as the only single design from this denomination struck by seven US Mint branch locations: Philadelphia, Dahlonega, Charlotte, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City, and Denver.
