Highlights:
All 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins listed here are graded Mint State 63. This grade means the coin has a good mint luster overall but will display several small contact marks. Heavier marks and light hairlines may also be present and can be seen without magnification. San Francisco and Philadelphia both had high mintages in 1878, but San Francisco slightly surpassed Philadelphia’s total output. Carson City, in comparison, struck fewer coins.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1878-S Morgan Dollar displays George T. Morgans design of Liberty. Shown in left-profile relief, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap along with a coronet marked Liberty and a laurel wreath. Around her head are 13 stars that stand for the original colonies.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar showcases Morgans heraldic eagle design. Here, the American bald eagle is seen with its wings spread, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, representing both military strength and peaceful intentions.
History
The story of the Morgan Dollar is closely tied to the economic and political events of its time. Many coins produced were not released into circulation but were stored away in Treasury vaults to back silver certificates. The coin also became a symbol in the “Free Silver” movement, which became a major issue in the 1896 presidential election.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
