{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Morgan Dollar is one of the most famous silver coins ever issued by the United States Mint. Produced from 1878 to 1921 in 90% silver, the series remains a favorite among collectors because of its rich history, silver value, and classic American designs. Morgan Silver Dollars from the New Orleans Mint are especially popular thanks to their connection to one of the nations historic branch mints. Today, BGASC offers certified 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins.
Highlights:
All 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available in this offering are certified Mint State 64 by PCGS. Coins in MS64 condition usually have a strong visual appeal and retain much of their original mint shine. Small contact marks may appear in certain areas, along with the possibility of one or two more noticeable marks. Minor hairlines may also be visible. Coins with the proof-like designation display mirrored backgrounds with light frost across the raised portions of the design.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1888-O Morgan Dollar showcases Liberty in left-profile relief. Designed by George T. Morgan, the portrait was modeled after Anna Willess Williams of Philadelphia. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap along with a coronet marked LIBERTY, while stars surround the image, and the date is inscribed below the portrait.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar features the classic heraldic eagle design. The eagle is displayed with open wings while grasping arrows and an olive branch. The detailed reverse design complements the Liberty portrait on the obverse and helps make the Morgan Dollar one of the most collected silver coins in US history.
History
The 1888-O Morgan Dollar was struck at the New Orleans Mint with a total mintage of 12,150,000 coins. This relatively large mintage makes the coin a solid option for collectors looking to add a New Orleans issue to their collection. Morgan Dollars from this mint are known for their unique history and continue to attract interest from both new and experienced numismatists.
