The 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin is part of a unique group of coins from the Bank of Canada hoard. These gold coins were produced between 1912 and 1914, but most were never released for public use because of World War I. Instead, they were stored securely by the Canadian government and remained hidden for nearly 100 years. In 2012, they were finally made available to collectors. BGASC now offers certified 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • Struck in 1913!
  • Limited availability of certified specimens!
  • Contains .4838 Troy oz of pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of $10 (CAD) backed by the federal government of Canada.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 64 by the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Obverse features a portrait of King George V.
  • Reverse displays the 1868 Canadian Coat of Arms.
  • Please note, we cannot guarantee the grading house of any given coin.

These coins are sealed in slabs and certified as Mint State 64 by PCGS or NGC. MS64 coins usually show average luster and some small contact marks in more than one area. In some cases, coins may also have a few more noticeable marks or slight hairlines. We cannot promise which grading company has certified the coin you will receive.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin carries a left-profile portrait of King George V. He is shown wearing the Imperial State Crown in this official image, which marked his first appearance on Canadian coinage. Latin inscriptions surround the design, reflecting the monarchs reign and title.

Reverse

The reverse displays the Coat of Arms used by Canada starting in 1868. This emblem includes four sections, each representing one of the four original provinces that joined together to form Canadas Confederation.

History

While these coins were struck by the Royal Canadian Mint more than a century ago, the majority were never used as currency. Due to World War I, they were placed in storage by banks and later by the Department of Finance, ultimately being stored at the Bank of Canada. They were not seen again until their release in 2012.
