{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The 1913 Indian Head Quarter Eagle was struck at three US Mint locations, with Philadelphia producing 722,000 coins, Denver striking 416,000, and San Francisco minting 240,000 examples. While production numbers were solid for the era, many coins were later lost to circulation wear and gold melting programs in the 1930s. Because of this, certified examples in higher condition are less common today. BGASC currently offers 1913 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coins to collectors.
Highlights:
All 1913 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coins offered here are graded About Uncirculated 58+. Coins at this grade show only light wear on the highest points of the design. Much of the original detail remains visible, and traces of luster can still be seen. An AU58+ coin sits at the upper end of the About Uncirculated category.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1913 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle features a left-facing Native American portrait wearing a detailed feathered headdress. LIBERTY appears above the design, with the date below, surrounded by thirteen stars. Bela Lyon Pratts incused design placed the imagery below the surface of the coin.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1913 $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle Coin, a standing bald eagle is shown with folded wings holding a bundle of arrows. The sunken relief design adds to the coins distinctive appearance and lasting appeal among collectors.
History
The year 1913 brought sweeping changes across the United States. Woodrow Wilson became President, marking a period of reform and modernization. That year also saw the ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment, allowing income taxes, and the Seventeenth Amendment, which enabled voters to directly elect Senators. The Federal Reserve Act followed, establishing a central banking system.
