{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}First introduced in 1916, the Mercury Dime arrived during a period of renewed artistic focus in American coinage that also produced the Lincoln Cent, Buffalo Nickel, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar. To commemorate Americas 250th anniversary in 2026, the United States Mint has created the Best of the Mint Series, celebrating several of the nations most recognized coin designs. Right now, BGASC offers the 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set.
Highlights:
Each 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set arrives with the coin and medal sealed separately in plastic capsules. Both pieces are housed together in an official presentation box accompanied by a themed shipper and a Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint. This set launches the Best of the Mint Series, with future releases planned to honor the Standing Liberty Quarter, Walking Liberty Half Dollar, 1804 Silver Dollar, and Saint-Gaudens High Relief Liberty Gold Coin.
Mercury Dime
On the obverse of the 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin is the classic image of Liberty designed by Adolph A. Weinman. The winged cap worn by Liberty became closely associated with Mercury, the Roman messenger god, resulting in the nickname Mercury Dime that collectors still use more than a century later. The reverse of the Mercury Dime Gold Coin displays a fasces crossed by an olive branch. Together, these symbols represent national strength, unity, lawful order, and a desire for peace, making the design one of the most recognizable in US coin history.
Silver Medal
The Silver Medal included in the set explores the period from 1916 to 1945 through a continuous artistic design. Liberty is shown with characteristics that reflect both defense and resolve during a time of global conflict, while the reverse highlights images tied to the Great Depression, Dust Bowl conditions, and Hooverville encampments.
History
Collectors may remember that the US Mint also issued a modern Mercury Dime in 2016. That release marked the 100th anniversary of the original 1916 designs and included gold versions of the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar. In the Best of the Mint Series, each coin once again reflects its original denomination through its gold weight, including 1/10 oz for the dime.
