In December 1921, the U.S. Mint introduced the Peace Silver Dollar, the last 90% silver dollar designed for daily use. Created to celebrate the end of World War I and the dream of peace, the Peace Dollar series has stayed popular with collectors. BGASC now has certified 1923 Peace Silver Dollar Coins available for you.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1923 Peace Dollar displays a portrait of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. Her hair flows behind her, and she wears a radiant crown that symbolizes the new hope that came after World War I.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 1923 Peace Dollar features a bald eagle resting calmly on a rock. With its wings folded at its sides and its gaze directed at the horizon, the eagle is placed against the backdrop of a rising sun, offering a powerful symbol of peace.

History

Anthony de Francisci was the artist behind the designs of the Peace Dollar. The reverse shows a bald eagle perched on a rock, holding an olive branch and looking toward the rising sun. The word “PEACE” is carved beneath the eagle to directly recognize the end of the Great War.
