{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The United States celebrated its 150th anniversary of independence in 1926 with the Sesquicentennial International Exposition, held in Philadelphia from May to November. This grand event attracted over 10 million visitors and highlighted the nations industrial and technological progress. Right now, 1926 $2.50 America Sesquicentennial Gold Coins in certified condition are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 1926 $2.50 America Sesquicentennial Gold Coin offered here has been certified Mint State 63 by the Professional Coin Grading Service. These coins display excellent detail but may show small contact marks, minor hairlines, and slight luster impairment.
Obverse
On the obverse, the 1926 $2.50 Sesquicentennial Coin features a standing image of Lady Liberty. She holds a torch in her right hand, symbolizing enlightenment, and a scroll in her left, representing knowledge and governance. The dual dates 1776 and 1926 commemorate the anniversary of American independence.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1926 Sesquicentennial Gold Coin features Independence Hall, an iconic structure in Philadelphia that served as a meeting place for the Second Continental Congress and later the Constitutional Convention. It was in this building that the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were debated and signed, making it a cornerstone of American democracy.
History
In 1926, celebrations for the Sesquicentennial took place across the United States, with Philadelphia as the centerpiece of the festivities. The city invested heavily in restoring historic landmarks, including Independence Hall. John R. Sinnock, who became the 7th Chief Engraver of the US Mint in 1925, was tasked with designing a commemorative coin that captured the essence of the nations history and heritage.
