First released in 1921, the Peace Silver Dollar symbolized the hope for peace following World War I. It replaced the Morgan Dollar and became the last silver dollar series issued by the US Mint. When the series ended in 1935, so did the minting of silver dollars in the United States. Right now, 1926-S Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • 6th release of Peace Dollar Coins!
  • Declared mintage of 6,980,000 coins!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content in BU condition.
  • Bears a face value of $1 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • The obverse side features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief.
  • On the reverse is a depiction of an American bald eagle.
  • Includes the S mint mark of the San Francisco Mint.

These 1926-S Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. The US Mint produced Peace Dollars from 1921 through 1928, and then again in 1934 and 1935. Each coin is offered individually in plastic flips, with larger quantities possibly coming in tubes of 20.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1926-S Peace Dollar, youll find the left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a crown of rays symbolizing light and freedom, and the national motto In God We Trust is inscribed alongside the year of issue.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1926-S Peace Silver Dollar depicts a bald eagle resting on an olive branch, its wings at rest as it looks toward the horizon. This peaceful imagery represents Americas hope for lasting peace after World War I, with rays of light shining behind the eagle.

History

In 1926, Peace Dollars were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. The San Francisco Mint produced the highest mintage, far exceeding the production numbers from both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints, with nearly three times as many coins as Denver and more than three-and-a-half times as many as Philadelphia.
