The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is widely considered one of the most iconic American coin designs. First issued in 1907, this version closed out the Pre-1933 $20 Double Eagle series and introduced a new take on Liberty that represented the spirit of the early 1900s. BGASC now has certified 1927 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins available.

  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • 18th issue of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles!
  • Final mintage of 2,946,750 coins at Philadelphia!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains .9675 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Bears a face value of $20 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 66+ by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • The obverse features Lady Liberty.
  • On the reverse is an American bald eagle in flight.

Each 1927 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin comes graded as Mint State 66+ by the Professional Coin Grading Service. This high-grade coin shows excellent original luster and only a few light marks from handling, none of which appear in key visual areas. No hairlines are visible without magnification.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin shows Lady Liberty holding a torch and olive branch. She is shown standing tall in front-facing relief with rays of the sun behind her and the U.S. Capitol building near her feet. Stars surround the border of the design.

Reverse

The reverse shows the American bald eagle in mid-flight. Gliding from left to right, the bird is set against the rising sun, creating a graceful and balanced image.

History

In 1927, the Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver Mints all produced Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles. San Francisco led in total coins struck. The Philadelphia Mint issued 2.946 million coins, though only about 178,000 remain today in Mint State. Of those, just around 365 have been graded MS66+ by PCGS.
