The 1934-A series $1,000 Federal Reserve Note remains one of the largest denominations of U.S. currency ever made for circulation. Featuring Grover Clevelands portrait on the front, these historic notes are now available in certified condition at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective currency sleeve!
  • Secondary series of 1934 $1,000 notes!
  • Limited availability of certified notes!
  • Bears a face value of $1,000 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Issued a Grade of Extremely Fine 45 by the Paper Money Guaranty or Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • The obverse features President Grover Cleveland.
  • On the reverse are the nation of issue and denomination.
  • Please note that the individual notes may have different Reserve Branch seals.

Each 1934-A $1,000 Federal Reserve Note comes packaged in a clear currency sleeve and holds an Extremely Fine 45 grade. At this level, notes show minimal wear with only two or three heavier folds. Each bill may display different Reserve Bank seals from one of the 12 Federal Reserve districts.

Design

The obverse design includes the engraved portrait of President Grover Cleveland, the only president to serve two separate terms. Intricate linework surrounds his image, marking it as official U.S. currency. The reverse side highlights the country of issue and the $1,000 denomination in a large, bold format that emphasizes the notes value. The production of $1,000 bills ended in 1945, and in 1969, President Richard Nixon ordered their removal from circulation to prevent misuse in illegal transactions.

History

The A in 1934-A identifies a later release in the 1934 print cycle. These reissues often involved updates to the printed signatures of the Treasurer of the United States and Secretary of the Treasury. These high-value notes were originally used for significant financial exchanges before modern banking systems replaced physical transfers.
