{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}In 1980, the South African Gold Krugerrand series grew with the release of fractional sizes, making gold coins more accessible to different types of buyers. These coins, offered in 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights, provided a more budget-friendly way to invest in gold. Today, BGASC offers 1982 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coins for online purchase.
Highlights:
Each 1982 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coin is shipped in a protective plastic flip. Since the first 1 oz Krugerrand appeared in 1967, the design has stayed consistent, helping the series build a strong legacy. These coins are made with 22-karat gold, blending 91.67% gold and 8.33% copper for improved resilience.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1982 Gold Krugerrand, you’ll find the famous image of Paul Kruger. This portrait was first created in the 1890s for use on South African coins when Kruger served as president. A beloved figure in the country, Kruger earned the affectionate nickname Oom Paul, which translates to Uncle Paul.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1982 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrand features the Springbok antelope, a well-known symbol of South Africa. Native to southern Africa, this animal has been a part of the nation’s coin designs since the 1930s and represents South African pride.
History
The smaller fractional Krugerrands carry the same trusted designs as the larger 1 oz version. Paul Krugers portrait appears on the obverse, and the Springbok antelope is featured on the reverse. These coins made it easier for a broader audience to own gold during the high-price era of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
