{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}By 1983, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf had reached its fifth year of release. This year was significant because it was the first full year the 1 oz coin was struck in .9999 fine gold, and it was also the first full year fractional coins were part of the lineup. Right now, 1983 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 1983 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is offered in a protective flip. The 1/10 oz denomination was first introduced in 1982. By 1983, production of this size had grown by close to 60,000 coins when compared to the inaugural year.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1983 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is Queen Elizabeth II. The design comes from Arnold Machin, who created the portrait in 1964. Adopted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1979, this image shows the Queen at 39 years old and remained in use on Maple Leaf coins through 1989.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 1983 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf presents Walter Otts sugar maple leaf. Debuting in 1979 with the launch of the Maple Leaf series, this simple and clear design continues to be the signature look for Maple Leafs in all metal options.
History
The maple leaf has a long history in Canada, beginning as a cultural emblem among French Canadians in the 1700s. Over time, its role as a national symbol grew, and it became widely recognized during World War I through its use in military badges and on Canadian coinage.
