Today, BGASC is offering the 1987-Y 1/10 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin for online purchase.
Highlights:
Each 1987-Y 1/10 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is individually housed in a sealed plastic pouch. The Y mint mark indicates production at the Shenyang Mint. Additionally, this coin is categorized as a Large Date variety, meaning the numerals in the date are printed in a larger font compared to other variations.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1987-Y 1/10 oz Gold Panda Coin, the design remains unchanged from previous releases. This side of the coin displays the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a significant structure within the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing. The same design has been used across all weight denominations of the series since 1982.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1987-Y Chinese Gold Panda Coin presents a design exclusive to this years issue. It features a giant panda standing beside a pond, lowering its head to take a drink. The water ripples slightly as the panda’s mouth touches the surface, and bamboo sprouts are visible in the background.
History
Giant pandas are native to Chinas mountainous regions, particularly in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. These areas contain the bamboo forests that serve as the pandas primary food source. The natural landscape also provides a cool, secluded environment where pandas can thrive.
