{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Chinese Gold Panda Coin Series was introduced in 1982, making it one of the oldest options in the modern gold bullion market. At the time of its launch, there were just a few major gold bullion coins, like the South African Krugerrand and the Canadian Maple Leaf. From the beginning, the 1 oz coin has been a cornerstone of the series, offering a fresh Giant Panda image on the reverse each year. BGASC is now offering the 1989 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin to interested buyers.
Highlights:
Each 1989 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin available here is sealed in a protective plastic pouch from the mint. These coins feature whats known as the Small Date style, meaning the date numbers are more condensed and positioned closer together than the Large Date variety.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1989 Chinese Gold Panda showcases the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This is the main structure within the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing, a historically important Taoist site in Chinas capital.
Reverse
On the reverse, the coin displays a Giant Panda contentedly eating bamboo. When theyre not feeding, pandas spend much of their time resting. They typically live alone and are most active at dawn and dusk. Social interaction among adult pandas is rare and usually limited to breeding season.
History
Pandas spend most of their waking hours eatinganywhere from 10 to 16 hours a day. Their diet is made up almost entirely of bamboo, and theyve adapted to eat it efficiently using a special wrist bone that acts like a thumb. This adaptation helps them hold and strip bamboo stalks. Its not uncommon for a single panda to eat up to 40 pounds of bamboo in one day.
