This idea later shaped other popular series, including the Silver Kookaburra and Silver Koala. Today, 1990 1 oz Australian Platinum Koala Coins are available at BGASC.

Each 1990 1 oz Australian Platinum Koala Coin comes in an individual acrylic capsule. This release had one of the smallest mintages in the series, with just 28,121 coins sold. In 1990, the Platinum Koala program offered a range of sizes: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 1990 Australian Platinum Koala features Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. Created by Raphael Maklouf in 1985, this third-generation portrait shows the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem, a design seen on many Australian coins from this era.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1990 1 oz Platinum Koala Coin, you will find a depiction of a koala moving along a tree branch with its joey riding on its back. During the early 20th century, hunting for their fur caused a severe population decline, but laws passed in the 1930s helped protect the species.
History
Koalas have lived in Australias eucalyptus forests for around 20 million years. They evolved from larger animals that once lived on the ground, adapting to life in the trees over time. When Europeans first documented them in 1798, they mistakenly thought the creatures were bears, leading to the name koala bear, which is still incorrectly used today.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. Most BGASC orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
