Obverse

The obverse of the 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle features the well-known Lady Liberty design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. Liberty is depicted in full length, striding forward with a torch raised in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The background includes sunrays, the U.S. Capitol, and a ring of stars surrounding her figure.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1990-P Proof Gold Eagles, youll find an original design by Miley Busiek. This artwork portrays a bald eagle flying toward its nest, where a female eagle and hatchlings await. The scene symbolizes family, unity, and the strength of the nation.

History

The Proof Gold Eagles were introduced in stages by the United States Mint. The 1 oz coin was released first in 1986, followed by the 1/2 oz coin in 1987. The 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins completed the series in 1988. Each fractional coin carries a proportional face value, with the 1/4 oz coin designated a $10 (USD) denomination.
