{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The U.S. Mint introduced Proof American Gold Eagles in 1986, the same year the Gold Eagle series made its debut. The first year featured just a 1 oz gold coin, but by 1988, fractional sizes were added. Since then, the series has been released every year except 2009. BGASC now has the 1993-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins in stock.
Highlights:
Each 1993-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin comes secured in a protective capsule and includes a presentation box from the U.S. Mint. That box is packaged in an outer shipper with themed artwork and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Proof Gold Eagles are known for their frosted imagery and mirror-like backgrounds. Each coin is made from a 22-karat gold alloy that includes copper and silver.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1993-W Proof American Gold Eagle features the familiar image of Lady Liberty. Created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this design shows Liberty walking forward with the sun rising behind her. She holds a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with the U.S. Capitol in the background.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1993-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle, youll see a bald eagle family. Designed by Miley Busiek, the image includes a male eagle soaring above the nest while the female tends to a young eaglet.
History
The 1993 Proof Gold Eagle stands out as a unique release. That year saw the lowest mintage to date for the 1 oz version, with just 34,369 coins made. It also marked the final time the U.S. Mint used different facilities to strike the 1 oz and fractional Proof Gold Eagles. From 1986 to 1993, the 1 oz version was minted at West Point, while the fractional coins came from the Philadelphia Mint. All four sizes were struck at West Point starting in 1994.
