{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}First minted in 1967, the Krugerrand was South Africas response to the need for a gold coin that was available to the public. It was the first modern bullion coin designed for private ownership and stood apart by being priced based on its gold content rather than a face value. Right now, you can get 1995 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coins from BGASC.
Highlights:
All 1995 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coins offered at BGASC arrive in an individual plastic flip. These smaller coins were released 13 years after the first 1 oz version. Each coin is struck in 22-karat gold, blending 91.67% gold with 8.33% copper. This gives the coin a tougher surface and a richer color.
Obverse
The obverse of this coin features Paul Kruger, a former South African president, facing to the left. This portrait was crafted by Otto Schultz and is surrounded by the words SUID-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA, reflecting the countrys dual-language heritage at the time the Krugerrand series was born.
Reverse
Flipping the coin reveals the springbok antelope, an image sculpted by Coert Steynberg. The animal is shown leaping gracefully across the land, and its smooth, curved horns and lively motion reflect the beauty of South Africas native wildlife.
History
By the 1980s, Krugerrands were widely known and held a huge share of the global gold coin market. Even though South Africa faced international sanctions, the coins popularity stayed strong. With the introduction of fractional-ounce coins in 1980, buyers could now invest in gold without needing to purchase a full ounce.
