The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Maple Leaf Series in 1979, making it the second modern gold bullion coin series in the world. Over the years, the series expanded to include fractional gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins, all featuring the signature sugar maple leaf design. Now, BGASC offers the 1999 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin with a special 20th-anniversary privy mark.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • Commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Gold Maple Leaf Series!
  • Includes a unique 20th-anniversary privy on the reverse!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of $5 (CAD) by the Canadian government.
  • Features Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
  • Showcases the sugar maple leaf and a special privy on the reverse.

These 1999 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins with the 20th-anniversary privy mark are available in protective plastic flips. Although the series debuted in 1979, the 1/10 oz gold coins were first introduced in 1982 when the mint expanded its offerings with fractional sizes.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1999 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin, you will find a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This second-generation effigy of the Queen was the first created by a Canadian artist for the nations coinage. Designed by Dora de Pedery-Hunt, the portrait depicts the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1999 Gold Maple Leaf Coin highlights the well-known sugar maple leaf design by Walter Ott. Originally introduced in 1979, this design continues to be featured on all Maple Leaf bullion coins today. This particular release includes a special oval-shaped privy mark that reads “20 YEARS ANS,” celebrating two decades of the series.

History

The release of the 1999 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf marked a milestone for the series. When first issued in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf was only available in a 1 oz weight with .999 gold purity. In November 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint enhanced the gold purity to .9999 and introduced fractional-ounce coins, including the 1/10 oz version.
