{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Perth Mint introduced the Australian Silver Kookaburra series in 1990, and it has remained one of the more recognized silver bullion programs since that time. Each year showcases a different image of the kookaburra, an iconic bird native to Australia. Since 2018, the coins have been produced in .9999 pure silver and are issued in a standard weight of one troy ounce, offering reliable silver content paired with annual design updates. Currently, the 1999 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is available at BGASC.
Highlights:
Your 1999 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin comes secured in a plastic capsule. For this release, the Perth Mint authorized a maximum mintage of 300,000 coins. By the end of sales, only 109,364 coins had been sold. Although this figure showed a modest increase over the previous year, it was still considerably lower than many earlier issues from 1990 through 1997.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1999 Australian Silver Kookaburra displays Ian Rank-Broadleys portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This fourth-generation likeness, introduced in 1998, presents the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Inscriptions surrounding the portrait identify the issuing nation and denomination.
Reverse
The reverse design on the 1999 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Coin shows two kookaburras resting side by side on a branch. The paired image offers a different look compared to earlier single-bird designs. Detailed engraving captures the texture of the feathers and the branch, creating a clean and well-proportioned composition.
History
As the tenth release in the series, the 1999 Silver Kookaburra represents an important point in the programs history. A decade of annual designs reflected ongoing demand for these silver coins. This issue maintained the established weight and purity standards while adding a new artistic take on the familiar bird.
