{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are privately issued notes designed to function as a voluntary local currency. Each note contains a thin layer of 24-karat gold secured between clear polyester sheets, creating a flexible note with measurable precious metal content. With detailed artwork and a precise fraction of gold in every note, Goldbacks represent one of the few modern currencies made with real gold. The program originally began in Utah and has since expanded to additional states. The Idaho Goldback series is one of the newest releases and features designs tied to the states culture and history. Currently, 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note contains a measured layer of 24-karat gold. Individual notes are packaged in protective plastic currency sleeves. When purchased in bundles of 50, the notes are secured together with a black band and do not include sleeves. Goldbacks are also produced with advanced security elements, including UV-reactive artwork, micro-printing, and unique serial numbers to help verify authenticity.
Design
On the obverse of the 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, the design focuses on the heritage of Idahos Basque community. The scene shows a dancer performing a traditional Basque hoop dance. Beginning in the late 1800s, Basque immigrants from the Pyrenees Mountains of northern Spain and southwestern France made their way to Idaho. Many were first drawn to the area by work opportunities in the silver mining industry.
History
Over time, many Basque immigrants moved into sheep herding, where their traditional skills proved valuable across Idahos open landscapes. The Snake River Plain and nearby mountain valleys offered terrain well suited to the work. As the years passed, Basque communities grew stronger in Boise, which today is recognized for having one of the largest Basque populations in the United States.
