As President Van Buren was unmarried, the First Spouse Series uniquely features the iconic Seated Liberty design on the obverse of each 2008-W US Mint First Spouse Van Burens Liberty Gold Coin. Crafted by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint, in 1836, this timeless image portrays Liberty seated on a rock, holding a staff with a Phrygian cap, and with her right hand resting atop the US national shield.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2008-W 1/2 oz US Mint Van Burens Liberty Gold Coin, President Van Buren is depicted seated beneath a tree near his family home a significant gathering place for open political discourse during his lifetime.
History
Van Buren faced challenges in foreign relations during his presidency. One notable event was the Caroline affair in 1837, involving the burning of the steamboat Caroline by British forces in American territory. While diplomatic tensions arose, a peaceful resolution was eventually achieved, and war was averted.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies.
