The Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin Series has been a popular choice among European buyers since its launch in 1989. With its reliable production and wide recognition, the series includes both gold and silver coins that have often topped annual sales charts. BGASC now offers the 2009 1/10 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin for online purchase.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives inside a protective plastic flip!
  • 18th year for the 1/10 oz Gold Philharmonic coin!
  • Total mintage of 437,706 coins in 2009!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of 10 Euros by Austria.
  • Obverse features the pipe organ from the Musikverein.
  • Reverse includes various musical instruments.
  • Designs from Thomas Pesendorfer.

The 2009 1/10 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin is packaged in a protective flip. Its mintage for the year was the highest ever for this size, driven by increased demand during the global financial crisis from 2008 to 2011.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2009 1/10 oz Gold Philharmonic Coin showcases the pipe organ found in the Musikverein concert hall. This location, in Vienna, is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The hall where performances are held is called the Golden Concert Hall.

Reverse

Flipping to the reverse, youll find a set of classical musical instruments used by members of the orchestra. A cello appears in the center, with two violins on either side. In the background are a harp, horn, and bassoon, which together represent Austrias strong musical traditions.

History

When this coin series started in 1989, it featured 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins. The 1/10 oz coin was introduced in 1991, followed by a 1/2 oz coin in 1994, and the smallest 1/25 oz coin in 2014. Coins were originally marked in Austrian Schillings, but switched to Euros beginning in 2002.
