History
Caroline Harrison was a natural-born artist from birth. She grew up painting in Ohio and when she moved to Indianapolis she had a studio in her home and regularly featured her work in art shows. She even took painting classes once a week while serving as first lady. As the 23rd first lady, she used her artistic mind to her advantage by modernizing the White House with the planning of the East and West Wings, as well as being the first to preserve artifacts in the White House such as presidential china. Her legacy can be shown on this coin due to the Presidential One Dollar Coin Act of 2005 which allowed the United States Mint to feature Presidents and First Spouses on Gold Coins.
