Although the Perth Mint initially authorized a mintage limit of 100,000 coins for the 2013 issue, the final sales numbers ended up significantly lower. By the time sales concluded, the total mintage reached 56,241 coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2013 Australian Silver Lunar Snake Coin, you will find the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This depiction was created by Ian Rank-Broadley and represents the fourth-generation effigy used on many modern Commonwealth coins. The right-facing image shows the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, a familiar element of this well-known portrait.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2013 1 oz Silver Lunar Snake Lion Privy Coin displays a carefully engraved snake resting in a coiled position. The design emphasizes the flowing shape of the serpent along with the fine detail of its scales. Background elements are lightly engraved to provide depth while keeping attention on the snake itself.
History
