{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The First Spouse Gold Coin series from the United States Mint honors the First Ladies of the United States and their impact on the nation. Helen Taft, one of the most politically engaged First Ladies, brought international experience to the role after her time in the Philippines while her husband, William Taft, served as governor-general. Her efforts helped shape the responsibilities of First Ladies who followed. Right now, 2013-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coins are available at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2013-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin has been certified in Mint State 70 condition, meaning it has full mint luster and no visible imperfections. Notably, this release was the first in the series with a mintage under 2,000 coins. Each coin also comes with a label hand-signed by David Hall, co-founder of the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2013-W US Mint First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin features a detailed portrait of Helen Taft. Often called “Nellie,” she was First Lady from 1909 to 1913, serving alongside President William Howard Taft.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2013-W 1/2 oz First Spouse Helen Taft Gold Coin, the design reflects one of her lasting contributions. Inspired by her time in Japan, she played a major role in bringing Japanese cherry blossom trees to Washington, D.C. These trees continue to be a defining feature of the citys landscape today.
History
Helen Taft made history as the first First Lady to ride in her husband’s inaugural parade, setting the stage for future First Ladies to take on a greater public role during inaugurations. Her influence extended beyond politics, as she helped shape the ceremonial aspects of the First Ladys responsibilities.
