The Proof American Gold Eagle is a key part of the United States Mints coin catalog. First introduced in 1986, the Gold Eagle lineup included four BU coins and one proof coin. While all BU sizes launched together, the proof versions were initially limited to just the 1 oz size. It wasnt until the late 1980s that fractional proof coins began to appear. BGASC now offers the 2013-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a capsule with a presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity!
  • 26th release of 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles!
  • Stunning proof visuals!
  • Declared mintage of only 12,789 coins!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Bears a face value of $10 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • The obverse depicts Lady Liberty.
  • On the reverse is a family of bald eagles.
  • W mint mark from the West Point Mint.

Each 2013-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin available at BGASC comes with its original U.S. Mint packaging. That includes a display box, a protective capsule, and a Certificate of Authenticity. These proof coins have detailed designs with a frosted finish against mirror-like background fields.

Obverse

The obverse of 2013-W Proof Gold Eagles showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens timeless image of Lady Liberty. Created in 1907, this artwork features Liberty in full-length holding a torch and olive branch while walking forward. The design includes sun rays behind her, a ring of stars, and the Capitol building at her feet.

Reverse

On the reverse, the coin shows a bald eagle family. Designed by Miley Busiek for the Gold Eagle Series, this scene includes a flying male eagle approaching a nest with a female eagle and hatchlings. The design represents family and strength and was used for many years in the series.

History

The Gold Eagle Series made its debut in 1986 with just one proof option: the 1 oz coin. It wasnt until 1987 that the Mint added the 1/2 oz proof coin, followed in 1988 by the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz versions. This gave collectors a wider range of options in the years that followed.
