Each 2017-W 1 oz Proof 225th Anniversary American Liberty Gold Coin listed here has received a near-perfect PR69 grade from the PCGS. Coins in this condition show full mint luster and only minor imperfections, such as small contact marks or hairlines outside the main design elements. These coins also feature a DCAM (deep cameo) designation, meaning their frosted designs contrast sharply with the mirrored background fields, creating a stunning proof finish.
The 2024 date included on the PCGS slab label reflects a special auction by the US Mint, during which back-dated coins like these 2017 Proof American Liberty Gold Coins were sold. The coin itself remains a 2017 issue, while the 2024 label acknowledges the timing of this special release.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2017-W 1 oz Proof 225th Anniversary American Liberty Gold Coin, Liberty is shown in a left-profile bust. This depiction reimagines Liberty with African-American features, wearing a flowing robe and a crown of stars to symbolize hope and freedom.
Reverse
The reverse features an American bald eagle in mid-flight. Every feather in the eagles wings and tail is finely detailed, giving the design remarkable depth. Struck in high relief, the coins design elements appear more vivid and lifelike.

The 2017 Proof 225th Anniversary American Liberty Gold Coin celebrates the founding of the United States Mint in 1792. Established under the Coinage Act, the Mint laid the foundation for the nations coinage system and introduced the first official US currency.
