Every 2020 1 oz Chinese Silver Kweichow Auto Dollar Coin comes in a protective plastic capsule. The total mintage was capped at just 5,000 coins. These silver coins are based on the historic 1928 Auto Dollar, which represented modernization and regional pride at a time when Zhou Xichengs influence shaped local developments.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2020 Chinese Silver Kweichow Auto Dollar Coin, youll find a depiction of Zhou Xichengs Packard. The vehicle, believed to be a Packard Six, was a symbol of wealth and foreign prestige. It stood out in rural China, and its appearance on the coin emphasized Zhous vision for advancing his province during a time of national instability.
Reverse
The reverse side of the coin includes a poppy flower framed by Chinese characters. During the 1920s Warlord Era, Zhou governed Kweichow as a self-appointed regional leader. One of the key sources of income in the province was opium production, which is linked to the poppy. Its inclusion reflects both the economic conditions and the historical context of the coins origin.
History
The 1928 Auto Dollar, also known as the Kweichow Province silver dollar, is one of Chinas most well-known historical coins. It was issued under the direction of Zhou Xicheng to recognize the opening of the regions first highway. Zhous own Packard car is shown on the coin, symbolizing the role he played in the project and his status as the sole automobile owner in the province at the time.
