{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Peace Silver Dollar debuted in December 1921 to celebrate the conclusion of World War I and the hope for peace that followed. Designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the coin featured a new portrait of Liberty inspired by his wife, Teresa. Her image reflected a more modern and natural appearance compared to earlier silver dollars. In 2021, the US Mint marked the 100th anniversary of the design by releasing a commemorative silver bullion version struck in .999 fine silver. Right now, 2021 Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2021 Peace Silver Dollar Coin available here is packaged in an individual protective plastic capsule. The original Peace Dollar was the last silver dollar produced for circulation in the United States and was struck in 90% silver. Initial production ran from 1921 through 1928, with a brief return during 1934 and 1935. The 2021 edition marks a new chapter, as the coin is now offered as a bullion issue for collectors and silver buyers.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 Peace Dollar Coin features a left-facing image of Lady Liberty. Unlike the Morgan Dollar that preceded it, this design shows Liberty wearing a crown with sharp rays that resemble sunlight. The facial features were modeled after Teresa de Francisci, preserving the personal connection established with the original 1921 coin.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar is a peaceful depiction of a bald eagle. The eagle stands on a rock bearing the word PEACE and holds an olive branch. Sun rays extending upward reinforce the message of peace that defines the series.
History
Peace Silver Dollar production took place during two separate timeframes influenced by changing economic needs. Coins minted between 1921 and 1928 came from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, with mintages that varied significantly. After a pause of several years, production resumed briefly in the 1930s due to updated silver legislation, closing the door on traditional silver dollar coinage.
