{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Proof American Gold Eagle Coins represent the collectible edition of the United States official gold bullion coin. Released between 1986 and 1988, the four sizes offered in this series quickly became some of the most widely collected gold coins in the world. Collectors value these proof issues for their careful production process and classic designs. The 2021 release marks the 35th anniversary of the Proof American Gold Eagle Series and serves as the final year for the original reverse design before a transition to a new look. Currently, 2021-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available for purchase online from BGASC in pristine condition.
Highlights:
Each 2021-W 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin offered by BGASC has been graded and certified as perfect by PCGS. A PR70 grade is assigned only to proof coins that display full mint brilliance with no visible marks or flaws on the surface or design elements. Along with the perfect grade, these coins also feature two additional labels from the grading service.
The DCAM, or deep-cameo, designation describes the strong visual contrast found on proof coins. The raised design elements appear frosted, while the background fields are smooth and highly reflective. The First Strike label indicates that the coin was submitted to PCGS within the first 30 days of the U.S. Mints release.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Gold Eagle features the iconic Lady Liberty design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. First introduced in 1907, the artwork shows Liberty stepping forward while holding a torch to symbolize enlightenment and an olive branch representing peace.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2021-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle displays the original American bald eagle family design by Miley Busiek. Introduced in 1986, the image shows a male eagle flying above a nest as a female eagle protects the young below.
History
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Series, the U.S. Mint is introducing updated reverse designs for both its gold and silver coins. The 2021 Proof releases begin with the original reverse artwork before the Mint switches to the new designs later in the production cycle. The obverse images of Liberty will continue unchanged across both metal types.
