History
The artwork on Austrian Philharmonic coins is closely tied to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Established in 1842 by Otto Nicolai, the group was created so Vienna Court Opera musicians could perform symphonic works. Their first concert, held on March 28, 1842, at the Groer Redoutensaal, marked the beginning of one of the worlds best-known orchestras.
