{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Popeye, the spinach-eating sailor, was introduced by E.C. Segar in 1929 within the comic strip Thimble Theatre. Famous for his squinty eye, unique way of speaking, and incredible strength from spinach, Popeye quickly became a standout character. Over the years, his adventures have included a variety of supporting characters from his universe, many of whom have become just as iconic. Now, 2024 1 oz Colorized Samoa Silver Popeye and the Group Coins are available through BGASC.
Highlights:
These 2024 1 oz Colorized Samoa Silver Popeye and the Group Coins are presented in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin features vibrant colorized details on the reverse and arrives individually packaged in a protective plastic capsule.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Colorized Silver Popeye and the Group Coin includes the national coat of arms for Samoa. This design features a shield flanked by olive branches, with inspiration drawn from the United Nations emblem. Inside the shield, youll see the Southern Cross constellation, a palm tree, and stylized ocean waves. A Christian cross is positioned above the shield.
Reverse
On the reverse, Popeye appears alongside some of his closest companions in the 2024 Colorized Samoa Silver Popeye and the Group Coin. This design highlights Bluto (or Brutus), Olive Oyl, J. Wellington Wimpy, and SweePea alongside the spinach-powered sailor.
History
Olive Oyl is one of the most recognizable figures in Popeyes world. She actually predates Popeyes debut in Thimble Theatre and was initially portrayed as fickle before becoming devoted to Popeye. Other notable characters include J. Wellington Wimpy, famous for his love of hamburgers and his catchphrase “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today,” and Swee’Pea, the foundling baby Popeye adopted and raised.
