{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Prehistoric Life II Series is a modern coin collection that blends precious metal content with detailed designs inspired by ancient animals. Introduced in 2020, the series has released gold and silver issues featuring different creatures from across the prehistoric timeline. One of the proof offerings includes a small 1/2 gram gold coin. BGASC currently offers the 2025 1/2 Gram Proof Congo Gold Velociraptor Coin.
Highlights:
All 2025 1/2 Gram Proof Congo Gold Velociraptor Coins available here are struck with proof finishes that feature frosted design details and mirrored field elements. Each coin comes in its own acrylic capsule and is part of a limited mintage of only 2,000 coins worldwide.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Proof Congo Gold Velociraptor Coin is the Congolese coat of arms. The central portion of the design shows a leopards head, a symbol connected with strength and national heritage. The shield is accompanied by two crossed objects an elephant tusk and a spear which represent both the countrys natural wealth and its ability to defend itself.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 1/2 Gram Proof Gold Velociraptor Coin displays the velociraptor in a detailed design. Although films often portray velociraptors as tall and imposing, the real animal was much smaller. It stood around 18 inches high at the hip and measured roughly six feet long from snout to tail. It had a lean frame, hollow bones, and a body built for speed and sharp movement. Its most recognizable feature was the sickle-shaped claw on the second toe, which could grow up to 2.6 inches and was likely used to restrain prey.
History
Velociraptors lived during the Late Cretaceous period around 75 to 71 million years ago and have been linked to regions of Central and East Asia. While they were not large dinosaurs, they are widely believed to have been skilled hunters with quick reflexes and strong mobility. Researchers often describe velociraptors as fast and intelligent predators, and many believe they may have been warm-blooded. Some studies suggest they could have hunted in groups, though this is still debated. Their sharp, curved claws were likely used to grip prey and keep it pinned down rather than slash at it.
