{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The 2025 1 oz Silver 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation Coin celebrates a historic milestone in the development of Australias currency. Produced by the Perth Mint, this special issue marks 225 years since Governor Philip Gidley King established the first formal currency standards for the colony in 1800. With a design inspired by the Spanish Pillar Dollar, this coin pays tribute to a document that played a vital role in shaping early Australian commerce. You can now purchase the 2025 1 oz Australian Silver 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation Coin at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2025 1 oz Australian Silver 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and packaged in an individual flip. The reverse design references the Spanish Pillar Dollar, a historically important coin that was commonly used in early trade and monetary exchanges.
Obverse
The obverse features the new portrait of King Charles III as it appears on official Australian coins. This left-facing image, created by Dan Thorne, presents the monarch without a crown, representing the beginning of his reign on Australian coinage.
Reverse
On the reverse, youll find a reproduction of the Spanish Pillar Dollars well-known design. Also known as the “piece of eight,” the original was produced across Spanish America for centuries. The coin features authentic engravings and includes the Mo mint mark of the Mexico City Mint, where many originals were struck.
History
To address a lack of circulating coinage in the colony, Governor Kings proclamation deliberately raised the value of certain foreign coins, especially the Spanish dollar, which was set at five shillings. This move discouraged coins from being removed by departing ships, helping stabilize the colonys economy.
