Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 EC8 Silver Dominica Mountain Chicken Coin bears the seal of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. The design features the ECCB initials enclosed within a wreath of palm branches in a clean, balanced presentation. Serving as the monetary authority for the EC8 series, the ECCB emblem connects each release to the financial leadership and institutional stability of one of the Caribbean’s respected central banking organizations.
Reverse
Shown on the reverse of the 2025 1 oz EC8 Silver Mountain Chicken Coin is the native frog that inspired this year’s Dominica design. The Mountain Chicken has a broad, muscular body, can reach approximately 20 centimeters in length, and may weigh up to 900 grams. Its powerful legs make it well adapted for movement across the forest floor and along streams where the species naturally lives.
History
The Mountain Chicken may have a name that suggests otherwise, but it is actually an impressive frog species and ranks among the largest frogs in the world. Its scientific name, Leptodactylus fallax, identifies it as part of a South American frog family, while its nickname developed because residents of Dominica and Montserrat traditionally hunted it for food, often describing its flavor as similar to chicken.
