In Chinese culture, dragons are seen as powerful and lucky beings that bring harmony and good fortune, unlike the dangerous dragons often found in Western stories. The Australian Rectangular Dragon Series, offered annually by the Perth Mint since 2018, highlights this traditional symbolism. Right now, 2025 1 oz Proof Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon Coins are available to order from BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Coins arrive inside presentation window boxes with a themed shipper and a Certificate of Authenticity!
  • 8th year for the Australian Rectangular Dragon!
  • Proof visuals!
  • Limited mintage of only 3,888 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (AUD) by Australia.
  • King Charles III on the obverse.
  • Chinese dragon on the reverse.
  • Art by Lucas Bowers.

Each 2025 1 oz Proof Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon Coin comes inside a display window box and includes a themed shipper. Youll also receive a Certificate of Authenticity from the Perth Mint.

Obverse

The obverse design of the 2025 1 oz Proof Rectangular Silver Dragon includes a portrait of King Charles III. The King is shown in left-profile without a crown, a formal image created by Dan Thorne for Perth Mint issues.

Reverse

On the reverse, the 2025 Proof Australian Rectangular Silver Dragon Coin presents a Chinese dragon designed by Lucas Bowers. This dragon is shown in a powerful front-facing pose, featuring a long, winding body, scaled skin, four clawed limbs, and stylized horns. The background includes clouds, a common setting in Chinese art that shows the dragons connection to the sky and storms.

History

Symbolism plays a key role in Chinese dragon art. One important detail is the number of claws. Historically, five claws indicated a royal dragon used only by the emperor, while four-clawed dragons represented noble status, and three-clawed dragons were seen in more general decorative use.
