Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Proof Republic of Ghana Silver James the son of Zebedee Coin, youll see a left-facing portrait of King Charles III. This design was created by artist Jody Clark, who also designed the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles is shown without a crown in this artwork.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 1 oz Proof Silver James the son of Zebedee Coin presents a scene of James just before his martyrdom. Although Judas died first, James became the first apostle to be killed for his beliefs. He was executed by King Herods order and beheaded with a sword.
History
James the son of Zebedee was one of Jesuss most well-known disciples. He belonged to a close inner circle with his brother John and fellow apostle Simon Peter. To tell him apart from another apostle named James, hes often called James the Greater. Before joining Jesus, he worked as a fisherman in Galilee. Jesus gave him and John the nickname Sons of Thunder or Boanerges, likely in reference to their boldness or passion.
