The koala is one of Australias most well-known native species. Easily recognizable by its fluffy ears and tree-dwelling habits, the koala is a beloved symbol of Australian wildlife. As a marsupial, it raises its young in a pouch until they are ready to venture out on their own. In 2024, the Royal Australian Mint introduced the Australian Koala bullion series. Now, the 2025 1 oz Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coin is available at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Available in plastic capsules, sealed rolls of 10 coins, or boxes of 240 coins!
  • 2nd release in the Royal Australian Mints Koala Series!
  • Limited mintage of 25,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
  • Bears a face value of $1 (AUD), backed by the Australian government.
  • Obverse features a portrait of King Charles III.
  • Reverse depicts a koala with its young in a tree.

Each 2025 1 oz Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins come in plastic capsules, while multiples are available in rolls of 10 and boxes of 240. Each box contains 24 sealed rolls.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 Silver Koala Coin features King Charles III in a left-profile portrait created by Dan Thorne. This is the first official image of the king used on Australian coinage, and it depicts him without a crown.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2025 1 oz Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coin, a mother koala sits on a tree branch with her young joey. Koalas rely on eucalyptus trees not only for food but also for protection from predators and to help regulate their body temperature. Taller trees in cooler regions are especially beneficial for climate control.

History

Koalas are known for their slow, relaxed lifestyle, spending up to 22 hours a day sleeping or resting. This is due to their diet of eucalyptus leaves, which are difficult to digest and provide little energy. While toxic to most animals, koalas have a unique digestive system that allows them to survive on these leaves alone.
