To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, the US Mint is releasing a special version of the Proof Silver Eagle featuring a unique Army-themed privy mark. The Armys official beginning was June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress approved the enlistment of soldiers to serve in what was then called the Continental Army. Obverse

The obverse of the 2025-W Proof Army Privy American Silver Eagle uses Adolph A. Weinmans classic Walking Liberty design. Introduced in 1916, it shows Liberty walking left toward the sun while draped in the American flag.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025-W 1 oz Proof Army Privy Silver Eagle Coin displays a design from Emily Damstra. In this depiction, a bald eagle is flying in from the left side while holding an oak branch in its talons.

History

The formation of the Continental Army was prompted by increasing tensions with Britain, especially following the early battles of the American Revolution. George Washington was appointed to lead the Army, and it began with units from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. This marked the start of what would become the countrys oldest military branch.
