Obverse
The obverse of 2026 Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins displays a left-profile portrait of King Charles III. The effigy, created by Glyn Davies, portrays the king without a crown. This side also includes the QEII 100 privy mark, recognizing the 100-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth IIs birth.
Reverse
The reverse of 2026 1/2 Gram Gold Bounty Coins depicts the HMS Bounty at sea. The ships lengthy stay in Tahiti and Blighs demanding leadership created tension that ultimately fueled the well-known mutiny on April 28, 1789. After taking control of the ship and setting Bligh and loyal crew members adrift, Fletcher Christian and a group of mutineersalong with several Tahitian men and womensettled on Pitcairn Island in 1790 to avoid capture.
History
HMS Bounty was originally a modest vessel purchased by the British Royal Navy in 1787 and fitted for a mission centered on transporting breadfruit plants from Tahiti to the West Indies. These plants were intended as a cheap food option for enslaved people. Led by Lieutenant William Bligh, the Bounty set sail from England in December 1787 and reached Tahiti in October 1788, where the crew remained for months to gather the plants.
