The American Gold Eagle Series is preparing to celebrate its 40th year in 2026. Introduced in 1986, this popular series includes a 1 oz gold coin along with three smaller fractional sizes. The 1/2 oz coin is the largest of those fractional weights and has been part of the lineup since the series began. You can now purchase 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins from BGASC.

  • Obverse features Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse shows the head of a bald eagle.
  • Please note that the US Mint has not yet released designs, and images are subject to change.

Each 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins are packaged individually in flips or in tubes of 40 for larger orders.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 2026 Gold Eagle, youll find Lady Liberty in a design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. She walks forward confidently with a torch raised in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. In the background are the U.S. Capitol, shining rays of the sun, and a ring of stars.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Eagle highlights a modern bald eagle design by Jennie Norris. Debuting in 2021, this left-profile portrait focuses on the eagles head, capturing the birds feathers and features in sharp detail.

History

Though the Gold Eagle has always been offered in four weights, the 1/2 oz coin saw its strongest demand in its very first year. Back in 1986, nearly 600,000 of these coins were sold. Unlike the 1 oz or 1/10 oz versions, the 1/2 oz coin hasnt set a new sales record since that time.
