{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}In 2026, the United States Mint recognizes the 40th anniversary of the American Gold Eagle bullion program. The series debuted in 1986, becoming the first consistent US gold bullion release since gold coin production stopped in 1933. Although Gold Eagles were not made to circulate as everyday change, they remain legal tender in the US. For many buyers, they also serve as a familiar, widely trusted way to hold physical gold, especially during shifting economic conditions. Right now, 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
All 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins listed here come sealed in protective plastic slabs and have earned MS70 grades from NGC. An MS70 coin displays full mint luster with no visible marks or distractions. The First Day of Issue label is reserved for coins that reached NGC for grading within one day of the mints official release.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens timeless Lady Liberty artwork first used on the $20 Double Eagle. Liberty is shown in full-length stride, holding a torch and olive branch. Sun rays appear behind her, the U.S. Capitol sits near the lower edge, and stars along the rim frame the scene.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 2026 1/2 oz Gold Eagle continues the current bald eagle portrait introduced in 2020 and adopted across the series in 2021. Jennie Norris design presents a detailed profile of the eagles head, focusing on clean lines and realistic feather textures. It gives the coin a crisp, modern finish that pairs well with the traditional front.
History
The Gold Eagle series moved to a new reverse design in 2021, created by artist Jennie Norris. This change brought a closer, more modern portrait of the bald eagle, along with added security features. Even with the update, the coins kept the historic Saint-Gaudens Liberty design on the obverse, preserving the look collectors and investors have known for decades.
