Honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, all 2026 coins in the series feature a QEII 100 privy mark on the obverse. This modest detail appears just to the right of the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III and adds added meaning to the overall design. The 2026 1/4 oz Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coin is now available for purchase online from BGASC.
Highlights:
These 2026 1/4 oz Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is packaged in a protective plastic flip and includes the QEII 100 privy mark on the obverse.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Bounty Coin features a left-facing likeness of King Charles III. Created by designer Glyn Davies, this portrait represents the first official effigy of the monarch and shows him without a crown. The obverse also includes the QEII 100 privy mark, which commemorates the centennial anniversary of Queen Elizabeth IIs birth.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2026 Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coin presents the HMS Bounty sailing at sea. The ship is best known for the famous mutiny that took place in 1789 under the leadership of Fletcher Christian. After seizing control of the vessel, the mutineers eventually reached Pitcairn Island, where they burned the ship and formed a secluded settlement. The island remained hidden from the outside world for nearly twenty years, and its population today includes descendants of the original settlers.
History
The mutineers experienced very different outcomes following the rebellion. Fletcher Christian and eight other mutineers, along with six Tahitian men and twelve Tahitian women, settled on Pitcairn Island in 1790. Conflicts soon arose due to limited resources and internal disputes, leading to the deaths of all Tahitian men and most of the mutineers. Meanwhile, sixteen crew members who remained in Tahiti were later taken prisoner by HMS Pandora in 1791. After the ship sank, four men drowned, and the remaining prisoners were transported back to England, where three were executed after court-martial.
